It’s days like today that I love the internet, and all of the kids who have nothing but free time.
Discovered on the BBFC website was a list of the extra features for the forthcoming UK release of Ridley Scott’s Prometheuson DVD and Blu-ray.

Hey Guys! What’s Your Favorite Slasher Movie?

While I love all the permeations of horror to varying degrees (supernatural, hauntings, werewolves, zombies, J-horror etc…), slashers are probably my favorite sub-genre. While I can occasionally get myself in the headspace of being frightened by a poltergeist or work up enough suspension of disbelief to get on-edge during a zombie film, slashers require me to do a lot less mental projection in order to go along for the ride.
Why? Because I’m afraid of real people chasing me through the woods with knives. While it’s of course an extremely unlikely event, it’s still something of a possibility. I consider home-invasion films a branch of the slasher genre for this very reason. The reason I lock my door every night? I’m taking an active step (or empty gesture) against someone entering my home and dismantling me. It’s a far bigger concern to me than my residence being built on an ancient burial ground (though I’ll let you know if that changes the next time I move).
I also think I love slashers the most because of the nostalgia factor. They remind me of simpler times. The fact that they’re typically in rural settings holds them in stark contrast to my daily life in the city. Many of them are downright relaxing and comforting to watch in the moments when someone isn’t getting killed. Of course this is part of the point – something evil infiltrating something idyllic. It also doesn’t hurt that the 80′s were the heyday of the slasher film (obviously Scream aren’tHalloween rural or from the 80′s. But they exude a charming small town optimism that I like). I know many people who considered that era a dark time, but its cinematic depiction in these films is positively utopian compared to our current reality. Plus, there’s usually sex. That always helps.
To that end I ask, “what’s your favorite slasher film?” Mine changes daily, actually. I know that when I did my Friday The 13th Rankings I pegged Part 6 as my favorite entry in the franchise. Oddly enough I feel that Jason Lives doesn’t feel like much of a slasher to me tonally. So I’m going to keep it in the family, but go with Friday The 13th Part 2 as my favorite slasher under the criteria discussed above. Again, this changes all the time. Halloween is obviously a much, much MUCH better film, but I’m in a rural mood today.
What about you? Does your favorite slasher change day-to-day like mine does? Or is it consistently your favorite?

Childs play!!!

One of filmdom's most notorious killers is back to wreak more mayhem as Chucky continues his quest to possess the body of a human child. Eight years after seemingly destroying the killer doll, Andy Barclay (Justin Whalin) turns 16 and is placed in a military school. Meanwhile, the greedy president of Play Pals Toy Company decides to resurrect the popular Good Guys doll line, confident that all the bad publicity is forgotten. As the assembly line recreates the first doll from a mass of melted plastic, the spirit of Chucky returns to renew his quest and seek revenge on Andy. Once again it's up to Andy to stop the unrelenting killer in this fast-paced thriller.

alon told me to insert a title (thats what he said)

My bad. A reader e-mailed this week and asked what happened to all the stories and photos about pets? I still have more than three dozen photos to post of your pets. I'm back on it. Today's Paw Print Pick is about a lucky Beagle found running in Shenandoah National Park. For other photos and stories about readers' cats and dogs, see the Paw Print Pick album.Real name: Teddie
Pet's name: Cody
Why I chose this name: We named him for the place we found him. Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park in Tennessee.
Pet's breed: Beagle
Why and where I got him/her: We went evey year to the Smokies to camp out. Our favorite place was Cades Cove. We saw this Beagle running loose in the cove on our first day. We found out his story. He was a hunting dog that had gotten loose from his pack. They couldn't catch him. We believe that he was abused or just had no human contact. He was so hungry, but would cry and whine because he was so afraid to get too close. We fed him every day and gained his trust. We were told he'd be shot if he couldn't be caught. We caught him a day or two later and took him home.

wentieth Century Fox has won a bloody bidding war for the bigscreen adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, with Timur Bekmambetov set to direct from an adapted script by Grahame-Smith. Tim Burton is producing the 3D film with Bekmambetov. Pic's budget is estimated at $69 million. Fox will begin pre-production immediately and is planning a 2012 release, according to insiders. Fox went all out to win rights to the project, giving a detailed pitch for the film's production, marketing and release. Studio higher-ups didn't stop there...

When the filmmakers entered the Fox lot, they were greeted by a huge banner, plus parking signs stating: “Parking for Vampire Hunters Only, Park at your own risk," Variety adds.

Next there were bloody footprints lining the walkway and steps leading from their cars to the meeting with Fox co-chairs Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman and prexy of production Emma Watts.

Posters lining the hallway of the executive building showed images from the book and lines from the script, while there were silver bullets in a bowl at the check-in desk.

The showmanship continued. Bloody axes were strewn about and a bugle player with a Confederate uniform played "Taps."
